Meet the core team

Rodney Williams

Chairman

Rodney’s experience of more than 30 years spans stockbroking, financial publishing, journalism and investment management. Most significantly, he was one of the founding directors of Fleming Asset Management’s (now JP Morgan) original pan-European mutual fund expansion after inception of the UCITS directive. As a pioneer of UCITS fund development, he worked in Luxembourg for 11 years with both Flemings and Henderson/Cogent. Rodney is a recognised authority on cross-border funds, a regular author and commentator on industry issue and external advisor to a number of companies in the asset management arena.


Diana Mackay

Joint CEO

Diana is a recognised expert on trends in the investment fund arena having initiated the first authoritative research on the European markets in 1990. This research included a number of unique data gathering projects designed to aid fund management groups develop their strategies for gathering assets not just in Europe’s diverse markets but on a global basis. Over a period of seven years her most recent research venture (FERI FMI) developed into a multi-million pound business, which was acquired by Thomson Reuters. She has now established a new research business with long-term colleague Rodney Williams, which comprises a monthly report on industry trends called Fund Radar and a majority stake in the Berlin-based distributor research company Fund Buyer Focus, acquired in January 2011.

With more than 20 year’s experience of monitoring the development of fund markets Diana has been called as an expert witness to the European Parliament’s deliberations on the impact of Ucits and has participated in numerous European Commission initiatives, and industry Think Tanks. She is a member of Alfi’s Strategy Committee and has assisted in the promotion of the EFAMA fund classification standards.


Mauro Baratta

Joint CEO

Mauro has been involved in the research and analysis of the European fund industry for the last 16 years. He started his career working at Lipper and was one of the main architects behind the creation of the Global Fund Analyser, the first database calculating asset growth across European and offshore fund markets following the introduction of the Ucits directive. In January 2002 Mauro joined FERI Fund Market Information Ltd (the fore-runner of Lipper FMI) and helped to create and develop SalesWatch, the confidential cross-border sales benchmarking service, and the FundFile open-market database. A regular speaker at fund industry conferences and events, at Lipper FMI he was also the author of various reports on industry trends on the Italian, Spanish and Belgian markets.


Chris Chancellor

Partner

Chris is a strategic thinker with a background in the asset management industry. He has worked within asset management since 2000 with roles in marketing, product strategy and development, management information and business strategy and planning. He has a strong understanding of industry trends and also the commercial drivers and business dynamics within asset management firms. During his time at a global asset manager he created and ran an EMEA business and product strategy team reporting to the Head of EMEA to monitor trends both within and outside the business and create solutions to business challenges and opportunities. Chris has both the IMC and CFA qualifications.


Simon Critchlow

Head of Sales

Simon is Head of Sales and has over 25 years’ experience in financial services, including 11 years as an IFA so he knows something about life as an intermediary. In the last 15 years Simon has worked within leading international investment and commercial banks and high-growth asset management groups in sales, research and commercial roles within portfolio strategy, software design, product design and distribution. Simon’s business passion is for the development of better investor portfolios using insights from Behavioural Finance to help protect investors from the many human biases which stop them reaching their long-term goals. He knows this is like wishing to irrigate the Sahara. He has an MBA from London Business School.


Mark Phasey

Production Manager

Mark comes from a languages and social sciences background; fluent in German he worked for the University of Hannover in Germany as a research assistant and studied a bilingual master’s degree in European Studies.


Mark McFee

Publications Editor

Mark’s professional background encompasses market research, data analysis, and business journalism in the asset management and tourism industries. He joined MackayWilliams as publications editor in 2014, having previously worked for Lipper FMI, Funds Europe, and VisitBritain – all the while striving to strike the right balance between numbers and words in authoritative research. He holds a BA in French and German, a graduate diploma in economics, and the IMC qualification.


Ralph Williams

Publishing Assistant

Ralph has a background in global governance, having started his career working for the UN and various NGOs in Geneva. A fluent French speaker, he returned to the UK in 2014 after 13 years in France and Switzerland. As far as we can tell, he’s not related to Rodney.


Eleanor Radford

Accounts Manager

Eleanor is a freelance accountant who undertakes our book-keeping and finance management. An experienced, CIMA-qualified accountant, she was Financial Controller at Lipper prior to taking a short career break, and then took on a part time role at FERI Fund Market Information Ltd (later Lipper FMI).
